Howard D. Koenig Named Chief Executive Officer and President of Citadon
ASP veteran to guide company as market acceptance grows exponentially for Web-based collaboration, document management and Business Process Management solutions
San Francisco - January 13, 2004 - Citadon, a leader in Web-based collaboration, document management and business process management solutions, announced today that the Board of Directors has appointed Howard D. Koenig as Chief Executive Officer and President. Mr. Koenig will also be joining the Board of Directors.
"We are extremely pleased to have engaged an executive of Mr. Koenig's caliber and depth of experience in the nascent Application Service Provider space," said Jeff Horing, founder and managing director of Insight Venture Partners, whose firm led the recent financing round. "Howard's track record of leading successful ASP's since the space emerged in 1999 exemplifies the Board's vision of an executive that can make Citadon a successful ASP execution story and extract its enormous potential as we continue to exceed our sales and profit projections."
Mr. Koenig joins Citadon from Responsys, where as CEO and President, he guided the privately held company's transition to profitability. Palo Alto-based Responsys is the leader in hosted email marketing solutions for the world's most recognized brands.
Prior to Responsys, Mr. Koenig was the CEO and President of BenefitAmerica, where he orchestrated the company's growth from start-up phase to acquisition by UnumProvident. BenefitAmerica was an early entrant in the ASP arena by providing Web-based Employee Relationship Management (ERM) applications. Prior to joining BenefitAmerica, Mr. Koenig served as Corporate Vice President of Operations and Client Services at Automatic Data Processing (ADP), the $7.2 billion dollar payroll and human resources outsourcer. Mr. Koenig's nearly three-decade management career also includes senior roles at Accenture, Oracle and Deloitte Consulting.
"While I've been fortunate to be associated with outsourced software successes dating back to ADP in the mid-nineties, I am thrilled to join an innovative team like Citadon with such a compelling technology platform and growing marketplace acceptance. The on demand nature of 'apps on tap' offer much more allure to private and public sector clients when greater velocity to the realization of tangible benefits is the key business driver," Mr. Koenig adds. "Moreover, Citadon's fully integrated solution set encompassing Web-based team and project collaboration, robust document management and customizable business process management has the depth of functionality and proven scalability not found in package software."
Active on several boards, Mr. Koenig serves on the Dean's Advisory Council for the School of Management at the University of Buffalo, where he earned an MBA and BA in Economics. Mr. Koenig is the recent recipient of the Dean's Award for Leadership in the eCommerce Industry.
